For the sake of being cheap my buddy reuses his drawing needle but uses new syringe/needles for injecting. I told him to use new for each time around for both but he swears it's safe. Thoughts?

Needles are cheap, switch them out. Also, better to avoid any possible infection with a clean needle. In my experience it is better also because the first stick into the bottle dulls the needle. You would not think that but it definitely does. I used the same to draw and shoot when I first started, now I know better.

Ask him whats cheaper. A nasty infection or a couple of extra pins.

Re: Reusing The Drawing Needle?
yeah, just to be safe i ordered some 20g 1.5 to draw with and 23g 1'' to shoot with. the only thing that concerns me is the 23g are already on the syringe, obviously i will have to take them off to put on the 20g, guess i could open the syringe from the plunger, and take the needle off without ever taking it out of the plastic. what do you think?

Re: Reusing The Drawing Needle?
I give injections in my line of work every day. I use an 18g 1" needle to draw from the vial - it's easier. Then I use a 25g-27g 1.5" needle for an IM injection. Do not ever re-use any needle. Even if you use one to draw from the vial and another to inject with. The "draw" needle should be disposed of too. Even though you swipe the vial top with alcohol before putting the needle in - there is a chance of some bacteria still being there, you use it again next week - you will put the bacteria into your vial and contaminate your contents.
Ever seen an injection site abcess? I have...they aren't pretty and you or your friend do not want one. If the bacteria happens to be one of the staph bugs - it can kill you.
