Problem With My Traps... Empty Problem With My Traps...

Post by bigguy Mon Dec 18, 2017 12:12 pm

ok, here is the deal. i have noticed lately that one trap looks to be thicker/larger than the other...the left looks bigger than the right. i do the same exercises for my traps. i thought this was odd, so i went to a massage therapist to see maybe if it were a knot from stress or somthing like that.
well, she did find a knot in both of my traps. the right pushed out fairly easy, but the left was extremely sore & by the time she was getting done the knot was just starting to loosin up.
am i doing something wrong or is this normal. i did notice that i have more control of my left trap than my right...i was just doing shrug movements in the mirror & noticed the left moves more easily than the right & i really have to concentrate on the right trap for it to contract completely...
what do i do for this?
    thanks,

concentrate more while doing shrugs...you know which side you have to bring up so focus more on it..i had a similar problem...also do you do trap injections?

Utilize dumbells as much as possible, and really focus on the right side. You may even want to add in an extra set or two for just the right side. You can also focus on contracting it throughout the day to improve the neuromuscular pathways.

there are alot of nerves in your traps and you may be irritating them with the injections. also like trop said focus more on dumbell srugs instead of barbell ones cause it will work them more evenly. you could also use the smith machine for shrugs as it will force the bar to go up evenly instead of letting one side drop a little. at the end of each traps workout i would do an extra set or 2 for the lagging trap only with a dumbell.

i have been doing dumbell shrugs since i started doing shrugs & using the smith machine...that is what doesnt make any sense to me...i rotate every week & do at least 2 different movements for my traps...i just cant understand why one is lagging other than i may not be as coordinated in the right as the left...

if you have a chiropractor at your gym have him take a look at you cause you may have a natural lean to one side and that could cause you to unknowingly work the one side harder than the other. it may be something that you might not notice when looking in the mirror but it could be there. my gym had a free screening from the chiro when i first signed up and it did show i tilted to one side slightly.
